Information for Staff
Ordering
First, please check the library catalogue to ensure you are familiar with existing stock.
For tips on how to do this, try our opac tutorials
How do library budgets work?
- Each School is allocated an annual amount from the library budget based on their budget plans and student FTEs
- You can find out if there is any money left in your library budget by asking your Subject Liaison Librarian
How do I request material?
- Staff can request books, videos or DVDs to be held in the library to support their students
- Requests can be sent to your Subject Liaison Librarian on paper or by e-mail
- All requests are approved by the Head of School or their named representative
- Requests for journals, magazines & online resources may be more complicated as these are a subscription rather than a one-off cost and have implications for future budget years
- Your Subject Liaison Librarian will confirm your request has been ordered and let you know when it arrives
How do I find out about new titles?
- Your Subject Liaison Librarian will send to your School details of new materials they think may be of interest. If you want them to look for items in a particular subject area for you, just let them know
- If you have problems identifying suitable materials or tracking down details of individual items, please contact your Subject Liaison Librarian, who will be happy to help
- To see what books have arrived in the library recently, look at our New Books List
Reading lists
- Please send your reading lists to your Subject Liaison Librarian 12 weeks before the start of the course so we can ensure the books are in stock before the students enrol
- Your Subject Liaison Librarian will be happy to check your reading list and tell you which titles are already in the library and the price of titles that are not already in stock
- We will normally buy one copy of a title for every 5 students studying on a related course. Please let us know how many students are on the course when you submit your request
- If we buy 5 or more copies of a title, one will normally be kept as a reference copy
